Programs and Projects

Promoting Economic Freedom Projects

  • Economic Freedom of Tanzania Report – This report measures the degree to which the policies and institutions in Tanzania are supportive of economic freedom. The cornerstones of economic freedom are personal choice, voluntary exchange, freedom to enter markets and compete, and security of the person and privately owned property. Forty-two data points are used to construct a summary index and to measure the degree of economic freedom in five broad areas:
    1. Size of Government: Expenditures, Taxes, and Enterprises;
    2. Legal Structure and Security of Property Rights;
    3. Access to Sound Money;
    4. Freedom to Trade Internationally;
    5. Regulation of Credit, Labor, and Business.
  • Economic Freedom of Tanzania Conference – Our organization holds this annual conference which analyzes as well as debates the cornerstones of economic freedom which are personal choice, voluntary exchange coordinated by markets, freedom to enter and compete in markets, and protection of persons and their property from aggression by others. Invitees include Members of Parliament, government ministers, prominent businessmen, non-profit leaders, media representatives and other stake holders interested in achieving economic freedom in Tanzania, East Africa and Africa in general.

  • Uhuru Leadership Academy – UIPE takes the best and the brightest pro-liberty students, recent graduates and young professionals from across Africa and give them training, resources, a network, and other tools with which they can effectively organize and make an impact in their universities, cities and regions. Among other undertakings, they organize events, help start and grow student groups, and seek out other potential leaders for liberty with the resources we provide.
  • Uhuru Leadership Forum – Our organization conducts this annual leadership forum to brings together amazing freedom champions from our network within East Africa to exchange ideas and share strategies. This two days event will be followed by a gala dinner serves as a fitting grand finale to this conference, celebrating heroes of the freedom movement and the principles that friends of UIPE are advancing worldwide.

Knowledge Dissemination Projects

  • Ideas for A Free Society CD – Because of the limited access there is to texts that explore and explain the principles and foundations of a free society in many countries around the world our organization duplicates and distributes in our events a mini-library on CD in English created by Network for A Free Society. Although these are fairly old fashioned technology they are relatively cheap to send and make texts available in campuses where Internet connection maybe too slow or expensive to be widely useful and available. Some are short books, some are parts of books or articles. Authors include Bastiat, Smith, Mill, Mises, Hayek, Friedman and many more.
  • Books & Other Publications – UIPE arranges scholarly translations and publication of important books and articles/op-eds that make the principles of free markets, individual liberty, limited government and peace available to new readerships in Tanzania and across Swahili speaking communities all over Africa.
